Dr. Jill Bardwell joined the faculty in 1973, having been the recipient of the first Ph.D. in Early Childhood Education awarded in Texas. She rose to the rank of full Professor and Graduate Faculty member within six years. Dr. Bardwell served on numerous doctoral committees, and served as major professor for nine Ph.D. candidates. She was active in NAEYC, ACEI, IRA, Phi Delta Kappa, TAEYC and SACUS among other organizations. Dr. Bardwell was appointed Director of the Federation of North Texas Area Universities (ETSU, NTSU and TWU). Although this was previously a rotating position, she was re¬ appointed and served in that position for six years. Dr. Bardwell co-developed the Bardwell-Siestema Sex Role Stereotyping Scale which was universally used as a research instrument. Although she was a frequently invited presenter at national conferences, Dr. Bardwell’ s true love was teaching and working with graduate students. She was widely known for her lively lecturing style and ubiquitous humor. During her tenure, she authored, co-authored or edited seven books and numerous articles in professional journals.

Dr. Bardwell’ s mother, Virginia Bardwell, attended ETSU where she received both her bachelor’s and master’s degrees in business. She was a teacher and administrator in public schools in Texas for many years.
