First Year Leadership Class Scholarship

CRITERIA:
What is the First Year Leadership Class (FLC)?
Each year, FLC brings together incoming students who desire to be active and engaged in their communities and academics. This diverse group of students forms a close-knit community with some of the most involved students on campus. The program strives to equip these students with the personal leadership skills and education necessary to lead throughout their college experience and beyond.

Benefits of FLC:
o $2,000 scholarship per semester (fall/spring) with a 3.0 GPA or higher (can be combined with other scholarships, except Honors College, Regent Scholars, & Leo Scholars)
o Enrollment in the FLC leadership credited class designed to develop personal leadership skills and individual passions and talents
Preferred Qualifications:
1. Minimum high school GPA of 3.3 on a 4.0 scale or 85 on a 100 point scale
2. Located in the top 30% of high school class rank
3. ACT 21 (Composite) or SAT 1060 (Reading/Writing + Math)
4. Accepted to and intending to graduate from Texas A&M University-Commerce
5. Evidence of high school excellence in both leadership and academics
Required Application Materials:
1. Official high school transcript (including high school GPA and class rank)
2. Two 300-500 word essays:
a. Essay 1: How would you describe yourself to someone who did not know you? What are your strengths and areas of improvement?
b. Essay 2: What are the ways that leadership in high school and college can prepare you to be a contributing member of society after college? What leadership experiences have you had or want to have that will assist you in this?
3. Two letters of recommendation (1-high school and 1-community)
4. Professional resume (highlighting education, accomplishments, & involvement)

Recipient’s name can be published as a scholarship recipient.
Failure to meet the requirements of this scholarship may cause scholarships to be revoked.
This scholarship may entitle an out of state resident to the Non-Resident Tuition Exemption as outlined by the Texas A&M University-Commerce Policy on Non-Resident Tuition Exemption for Competitive Scholarship Recipients.
