Thomas & Opal Atkisson

Thomas & Opal Atkisson were born and raised near Lone Oak. Opal attended East Texas State Teachers College, which is now Texas A&M University – Commerce. She obtained her first job as a teacher at age 16 with a local school district. She taught several years in Texas before marrying Thomas, moving to Chicago, and then to California. She was a natural born teacher and loved working with young children. She loved teaching and she loved Texas. She died at age 101, having taught countless children both in and out of the classroom.
