Gary & Beckey Thompson
Dr. Gary Thompson attended Texas A&M University majoring in Animal Science. Following his Bachelor’s Degree, he enrolled in the Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine completing his studies in 1980. He began his 35-year career in Dallas moving to Hunt County in 1984 where he established his practice – Commerce Veterinary Clinic. His practice continues after 30 years of service to the community. Gary enjoys fishing and playing golf in his spare time.
Mrs. Beckey Thompson has East Texas roots, growing up in Royse City, Texas, where she was an all-state basketball player and Royse City High School graduate. Beckey is also a Texas A&M University graduate completing her studies in 1980. She majored in Health/Physical Education and Biology . Prior to the completion of their studies, the Thompson’s were married on December 17, 1977 – the same day Beckey celebrates her birthday.
Beckey has operated the Commerce Veterinary Clinic as the office manager for over 30 years. She is a community activist keeping busy in her support of Commerce, Texas. In 2014, Beckey was named Commerce’s Citizen of the Year. She also serves as a board member for the Commerce Economic Development Corporation, on the Board of Directors for the Northeast Texas Children’s Museum, as a member of Commerce’s Building and Standards Committee, and as a past president for Commerce Kiwanis Club. Beckey and Gary both serve on Commerce’s Animal Shelter Advisory Committee. In 2014, Beckey was awarded the Paul Harris Fellowship for her community service.
The Thompson’s have two children: Kelsey Lytle and Amber Kubacak. Both are also graduates of Texas A&M University. Mr. Gary and Mrs. Becky enjoy spending time outdoors with their growing family now having four grandchildren. Both are great supporters of Texas A&M University-Commerce athletics.
