Alton & Louise Biggs
Alton Biggs graduated with a B.S. in Broadfield Natural Sciences in 1974 and a M.S. in Biology in 1979. Louise Biggs attended the University in 1971-72, graduating with a B.F.A. in Art in 1977 from the University of North Texas.
Alton spent more than 30 years teaching science in the public schools of Texas, beginning in 1974. He started his own educational consulting firm in 1985 and began an author relationship with McGraw-Hill Education in 1988. His biology and middle school science textbooks are used by thousands of students worldwide every year. Louise taught art for 23 years, beginning in 1976. She paints and volunteers during her spare time.
We decided to establish scholarships in biology and art because as a way to pay back those who had helped us in our early years. Not every student will be able to establish an endowed scholarship, but every student who is given help ought to find a way to give back at a level commensurate with their ability when they are established.
